Anteater Offense Clicks On All Cylinders In Sweep of North Greenville

Box Score PHOENIX, Ariz. – No. 7 UC Irvine recorded season-highs in hitting percentage and service aces on the way to a 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-13, 25-19) of North Greenville at Antelope Gymnasium Friday afternoon.

UCI out-hit North Greenville .392-231, a season-best efficiency. The Anteaters recorded 41 kills and 12 errors on 74 attempts. UCI tied a season-best with nine aces, coming from Joel Schneidmiller (4), Jonny Bowles (3) and Patrick Vorenkamp (2). The three aces were a career-high for Bowles.

The Anteaters wins its second straight match and go to 9-7 overall. North Greenville snaps a four-match winning streak and evens its record to 8-8 on the year.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Junior Joel Schneidmiller lead all players with 15 kills, hitting .478 (15-4-23) to go with the four aces
>Big West Freshman of the Week Akhil Tangutur continued to shine, hitting .667 on 10 kills, 15 swings and no errors
>Middle blocker Aiden Wolf-Nielsen returned to the lineup and added six kills and a block
>Luis Kannee and Jackson Gilbert led NGU with eight kills apiece
>UCI had a 22-14 dig advantage

TURNING POINTS
FIRST SET

>A pair of Joel Schneidmiller kills got UCI on the board, 2-2
>Schniedmiller would fire a pair of aces to take a 6-3 lead only to watch the Crusaders score the next three to knot the score at 6 all
>Schniedmiller once again took control with consecutive kills to give the Anteaters the lead 11-10
>Kills from Aiden Wolf-Nielsen and Akhil Tangutur were followed by an ace by Jonny Bowles to move the margin to 18-14
>Another Schneidmiller kill would end the set, 25-20

SECOND SET
>A pair of NGU errors helped UCI to a 6-3 advantage
>A block by Scott Stadick and Bowles plus two more Schneidmiller aces gave UCI the 14-9 advantage
>Bowles began serving at 17-12 and the Anteaters closed out the set on a 8-1 run, 25-13

THIRD SET
>Stadick would record a kill and back-to-back blocks to help the Anteaters to a 6-1 lead
>A 5-1 spurt by North Greenville pulled the Crusaders within 10-8
>UCI responded with a 4-1 run of their own, which included two Schneidmiller kills to move out 15-10
>The Anteaters would continue to hold off NGU, winning the match on a block by Bowles and Wolf-Nielsen and an ace by Bowles, 25-19

NOTES
>Schneidmiller totaled double-figure kills for the 13th time this year and paced the squad in kills for the eighth time
>JB Kam had a match-best nine digs
>Jonny Bowles had four kills to go with his three aces
