No. 4 UCI Falls To No. 1 Hawaii

Box Score HONOLULU, Hawaii – No. 4 UC Irvine snapped a four-match winning streak with a 3-0 non-conference loss to No. 1 Hawaii in the finale of the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Invitational at the Stan Sheriff Center.

UCI goes to 7-4 overall, while Hawaii remains undefeated at 12-0 by taking the match 25-22, 25-20, 25-20.

The Anteaters out-blocked UH, 13.5-8.5 led once again by middle blocker Scott Stadick with a career-high 11 block assists. His 11 blocks assists ranks in a tie for ninth in the rally scoring era for UCI.

Stadick and outside hitter Joel Schneidmiller were named to the All-Tournament team. Schneidmiller recorded 47 kills, four aces and 10 block assists over three matches in Hawaii.

UCI hit a season-low .189 to Hawaii's .276.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Opposite Alexandre Nsakanda led UCI in kills with 15, hitting .400 (15-3-30). He also added a career-high five block assists
>The Anteaters had a season-low 16 digs
>Hawaii was led by Rado Parapunov's 14 kills followed by Colton Cowell's 12

TURNING POINTS
FIRST SET
>A 5-1 spurt by Hawaii which included three kills by Colton Cowell gave UH an 11-6 lead
>Three Anteater errors helped Hawaii to a 15-9 advantage at the media break
>A kill and an ace by Alexandre Nsakanda edged the Anteaters closer, 16-13
>UCI trailed 22-17 before the Anteaters rallied with a kill by Scott Stadick, a block by JB Kam and Aiden Wolf-Nielsen, a kill by Nsakanda and two Hawaii mistakes to close to 23-22 and force a Hawaii timeout
>UH would score the final two points out of the timeout, 25-22

SECOND SET
>The set began with a kill by Joel Schneidmiller and back-to-back blocks by Stadick and Nsakanda, 3-0
>UH would catch UCI at 4-4
>A kill by Schneidmiller was followed by a pair of blocks by Stadick and Schneidmiller to give UCI a 12-10 advantage
>A 3-0 spurt by Hawaii gave the Warriors a 15-14 lead
>Following the media timeout, Hawaii out-scored UCI 4-1, to get to 19-16
>UCI would get as close as 22-20 only to watch Hawaii score the final three points to end the set, 25-20

THIRD SET
>Three Anteaters errors gave UH an early 3-0 start
>Hawaii would extend the lead to 9-3 on an ace
>Stadick would be help UCI with three block assists during a 5-1 run that saw UCI creep within 14-9
>UCI rallied again with Hawaii holding set point 24-15 with six straight points, all Warrior errors, three with the help of Stadick blocks, 24-20
>A kill by Parapunov ended the set 25-20 and the match 3-0

NOTES
>UCI finished as tournament runner-up with a 2-1 record behind Hawaii (3-0)
>UCI was plagued by 14 service errors
>This is only the second three set match UCI has played in this season, previously sweeping Princeton to start the year
