Meaders Breaks Own School Record in Seattle

The UC Irvine women's indoor track & field team combined for one school record and nine personal bests to close out the MPSF Championships Saturday at Dempsey Indoor.
 
Sophomore Zani Meaders broke her own 400m school record for the second time this season. Meaders cracked the 55-second mark, clocking in with a lifetime-best 54.81. She was one spot out of scoring as she came in ninth in a field of 53 runners. Meaders was the top performer outside of the Pac-12 schools.
 
Junior Sha'Maya Flanagan placed among the top-25 with a season-best 56.40. She moved up three spots to No. 2 in program history. Flanagan became the fourth Anteater to break the 57-second barrier. Senior Cecily Montanez added a lifetime-best 59.46.
 
All four 'Eaters in the 3000-meter established personal records. Sophomore Hannah Chau, who also competed in Friday's 5K, led the way, crossing the finish line in 9:52.30. She is the third individual in school history to run a sub-10 minute race. Seniors Anastasia Karnaze (10:03.51) and Mariah Theologidy (10:19.41) continued to climb UCI's all-time charts, ranking fourth and seventh, respectively. Freshman McKenna Paulson rounded out the quartet with a PR 10:47.07.
 
Freshman Tess Mathes notched a lifetime-best 2:17.26 in the 800m. She is now sixth in program history.
 
Freshman Elizabeth Celada Padilla ran the 10th-fastest mile at UC Irvine with a time of 5:13.23, while junior Daisy Garcia also made her indoor debut (5:29.55).
 
Flanagan, senior Mychal Robinson, Mathes and Meaders closed out the action on the track in the 4x400 relay (3:51.24).
 
In the field events, sophomore Lorraine Nance took 18th in the triple jump (37-00.25), and sophomore Tayla Crenshaw was 24th in the shot put (40-07.5).
