ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The UC Irvine women's indoor track & field team had a handful of athletes compete on the first day of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational Friday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Sophomore
Hannah Chau had a top-five showing in the 3000m, clocking in at 10:28.48. Senior
Mariah Theologidy was ninth overall at 10:53.67, and freshman
McKenna Paulson crossed the finish line in 11:24.00 (15th).
In her second collegiate meet, freshman
Tess Mathes established a 600m personal-record 1:38.56, which moved her up three spots to No. 4 on UCI's all-time charts. Mathes was 11th in a field of 28 competitors. Senior
Cecily Montanez also came in 18th (1:44.60), while junior
Kayla Rodriguez was 22nd (1:50.56).
In the 200m, sophomore
Zani Meaders ran an indoor lifetime-best 25.22, which ranks sixth in school history. Junior
Sha'Maya Flanagan also made her way into the Anteaters' top-10 with a time of 25.43 (No. 8).
Senior
Brianna Villanueva took fourth out of 32 in the weight throw with a toss of 57-08.5. Sophomore
Tayla Crenshaw came in 19th in her first collegiate weight throw competition. Crenshaw had a best of 49-05.5, which is sixth in program history.
Sophomore
Lorraine Nance notched an indoor personal-record 17-04.75 to finish second in her flight and 19th overall in the long jump. Freshman
Kayla Mixon was also 31st in her collegiate debut (16-01.75).
This weekend's meet features three schools ranked among the preseason top-25 - No. 1 USC, No. 4 Texas and No. 16 LSU.
