LOS ANGELES, Calif. – No. 10 UC Irvine dropped a 15-10 decision to No. 11 UCSD after the Tritons pulled away in the fourth quarter on the second day of the MPSF Invitational.
 
With the loss, UCI falls to 6-4 on the season and 1-2 at the MPSF Invitational. The 'Eaters will play their final game of the weekend tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. UCSD improves to 9-5 overall.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Ivan Mercep, Jason Evezard and Bryant Joudrie each had two goals
> Ian Fleenor, Sven Davidson, Jon Polos and Carson Arnett added one apiece
> Goalie Harrison Land finished with five saves
> The 'Eaters went 2-6 in extra-man situations while the Tritons were able to convert 4-7 powerplays and went 2-2 on five-meter penalty opportunities
> UCI held a slight 33-30 advantage in shots while both teams won two sprints each
> UCSD was led by Syler Munatones and Calder Hilde-Jones with four goals apiece
 
TURNING POINTS
Quarter One
> UCSD went up 2-0 before Joudrie fired in a goal at 5:36
> The Tritons would score two more times while Davidson added a goal for the 'Eaters with just over a minute to play to make it 4-2 after the first quarter
 
Quarter Two
> UCSD's Munatones fired in back-to-back goals to open the frame
> Fleenor would score at 1:53 as UCI trailed 6-3 at the half
 
Quarter Three
> The teams exchanged back and forth goals throughout the frame as UCI still trailed by three, 10-7, at 1:28
> Casey Lynton dished a pass to Evezard who fired in a goal at the buzzer to bring the 'Eaters within two, 10-8, heading into the final quarter
 
Quarter Four
> UCSD broke up the lead scoring five times in the final quarter to seal the 15-10 win
> UCI got a goal each from Mercep and Evezard but it wasn't enough to close the deficit
