Anteaters Head Home Winners in 2OT

OREM, Utah --- Men's soccer captain Victor Falck played hero Monday night with a header goal to give UC Irvine a 2-1 win in double overtime to down Utah Valley at Clyde Field.

First On The Scene
UC Irvine (2-3-1) had a hold of the attack early in the match putting up the first four shots, and they capitalized in the 19th minute. UCI had the ball in the offensive third as Michael Orozco tracked across the box. A deflection on a pass put the ball on Eder Oliva's feet, and he turned and zipped a shot into the upper right to put the 'Eaters up, 1-0.

Wolverines Rebound
The stats were slightly on UCI's side at the half, but Utah Valley (2-2-1) quickly closed the gap with a lot of good opportunities in the second half. UVU found its goal on the momentum in the 72nd minute.

With the ball in the defensive half, Sterling Penniston-John punted a ball deep that landed Blake Frischknecht, and he did the rest driving and flying into the box before slipping a shot around Ford Parker and in to tie things at 1-1 with under 20 minutes to go in regulation

Over And Out
The sides went to overtime with a lot of fouls and unsuccessful set piece in the first ten minutes leading to another overtime period. The 'Eaters earned their eighth corner of the match in the 102nd minute and hit pay dirt.

Jose Ortiz was on the spot and whipped a ball to the near spot finding a leaping Victor Falck who flicked it on behind him sneaking it under the crossbar and in for his first career goal and the game-winner.

Final Score: UC Irvine 2, Utah Valley 1
Both Anteater goals on the night were the first career goals first for junior transfer Eder Oliva and then by third-year captain Victor Falck, also his first game-winning goal. Jose Ortiz added his first point of 2019 with his seventh career assist.

Ford Parker and Utah Valley keeper Mitch Jensen each finished with four saves. Parker scored the win, his second as an Anteater. The squads each finished with nine shots as well while UCI took the corner kick advantage, 8-2
