IRVINE, Calif. – Four UC Irvine alumni competed at the 18
th FINA World Masters Championships from August 5-18 in Gwangju, South Korea.
The alumni included Jim Kruse (73'), Manfredo Lespier (80'), Pete Fischler (76') and Dr. Omar Amr (96').
Kruse played 65's with Santa Barbara Masters and won a Bronze medal. Lespier and Fischler played together for the Santa Barbara Silver Surfers 60's and won a Gold medal with their team. Amr competed on the Olympic Club 35's and helped his team win a Gold medal.
"We are extremely proud of Jim, Pete, Manfredo and Omar all medaling at FINA Masters World Championships! It's an incredibly inspiring achievement. Congratulations gentleman!" said head coach
Marc Hunt.
The event was held in the same location as the FINA World Championships where UCI junior
Jason Evezard represented South Africa and 2015 alum
Lovre Milos helped Croatia earn a Bronze medal.
"This is no small feat. Competing within your age group, at the highest level, on the international stage, is a worthy accomplishment. Bringing home some hardware just adds to the success," added Hunt.
