IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine had 55 student-athletes named to the Big West Winter and Spring All-Academic Teams the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.
 
Each of the Anteaters' winter and spring sports had at least one representative on the all-academic team. Baseball, women's water polo and women's track & field led the way with eight selections each. 
 
Women's basketball saw six of their 10 letterwinners recognized, while men's track & field had six honorees of their own. Men's tennis (5), women's tennis (4), men's volleyball (4), women's golf (3) and men's basketball (2) also had multiple student-athletes earn all-academic accolades.
 
To be eligible for the Big West All-Academic Team, student-athletes must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade-point average, complete one full year at their member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically) and compete in at least 50 percent of their team's contests. Baseball pitchers are exempt from any participation requirements.
