IRVINE, Calif. – 20 UC Irvine student-athletes were invited by the UCI Police Department to participate in the 2019 Law Enforcement Torch Run on Thursday morning.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Southern California is the largest public awareness vehicle and grassroots fundraiser with thousands of officers in Southern California championing the initiative. The officers champion acceptance and inclusion as they carry the "Flame of Hope" 1,500 miles and through 200 Southern California communities in May and June each year. The leg ends at the Summer Games Opening Ceremony.
This year, the UCIPD invited 20 student-athletes to participate in the two mile run, followed by a BBQ at the station.
Student-athletes from women's water polo, women's soccer and men's soccer participated in the event.
