UC Irvine Leads Commissioner's Cup After Basketball Season

IRVINE, CA – A strong basketball season has led UC Irvine to the top spot in the Commissioner's Cup with spring championship season only a few weeks away.
 
The Anteaters claimed the Big West regular season crown in men's basketball and posted a fifth-place finish in women's basketball for an average of 150.0 points. That boosted UCI's overall sport average to 131.4, catapulting it to the top spot in the Commissioner's Cup race. The basketball average is the highest for the Anteaters since a 155.0 showing in the 2013-14 Cup season.

In determining a champion, the following round robin sports have points awarded on the basis of the final regular season standings, including a 20-point bonus for the champion. These sports are baseball, basketball, soccer, softball, women's tennis and indoor volleyball. In the sports of cross country, golf, men's tennis, track & field, women's beach volleyball and women's water polo, the points are awarded based on finish at the Conference Championship. In the case of ties in all sports, points shall be awarded by combining points and dividing them equally.
