LA JOLLA, Calif. - Senior
Barbara Coward highlighted UC Irvine's weekend at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla as she broke her own school record in the discus.
Â
On Friday afternoon, Coward beat her previous standard by 5 feet, 8 inches with a toss of 186-04. That came on her final attempt in Flight 1, and was good enough to give her three more throws in the finals. Although she did not see an improvement, Coward had a couple impressive marks of 183-11 and 181-05. She was the top collegiate finisher and placed sixth overall.
Â
Coward increased her lead in the Big West, while moving up to No. 7 in the West Region and No. 9 in all of NCAA Division I this year.
