
UCI Goes 2-0 to Advance to Cal Poly Match Play Championship

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's golf team went 2-0 on the first day of the Cal Poly Match Play Tournament Monday at Cypress Ridge Golf Course.
The third-seeded Anteaters advance to Tuesday's championship match against No. 1 seed UC Santa Barbara. The 'Eaters and Gauchos will tee off at 8:35 a.m.
UCI made its way into the winner's bracket with a 4-1 victory over sixth-seeded CSUN in the first round. Junior Anthony Truong defeated Tomas Helgo, 3 & 2. Junior Chris Casey, freshman Nathan Irwin and freshman Matt Gunson also won their respective matches, 4 & 3.
In the semifinals, UC Irvine beat second-seeded Utah State, 4-1. Truong led the way, topping Chase Lansford, 5 & 4. Casey defeated Cameron Tucker, 2 & 1, while Irwin (4 & 3) and Gunson (3 & 2) were also victorious.
