5 Things to Know: Andres Woodruff

IRVINE, Calif. - With the outdoor track & field season opener set for this weekend, we'll be putting the spotlight on some of our student-athletes and up next is junior Andres Woodruff.

Woodruff scored in the 400m hurdles at the 2018 Big West Championships, running a personal-record 53.38 to finish fourth. He was also an all-conference performer as part of both UCI relay teams. Woodruff led off the 4x100 that took second in a season-best 40.58, while he also opened for the 4x400 that ran a season-best 3:14.57 (3rd).

TRACK DREAMS
My mom is from Panama and that has been a big influence on my life as I am deeply rooted within the culture. Having dual citizenship with the country will also allow me to compete for them. My goal is to run in the World Championships in Doha at the end of 2019 with my two older sisters, who compete as well - one in the 400 hurdles like myself and the other in the 100m and 200m. Then we are on to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics the following year!

CANDY MAN
One thing that a lot of people who aren't close to me don't know is that I love candy. I eat candy just as much as I drink water, and as an athlete that's a lot. My all-time favorite is the Sour Patch Watermelon chewy candy. I like all types of sour candies, but if you see me with a bag of candy, it's likely to be that kind.

STYLIN'
I just recently launched my very own styling and visual consulting business in which I service clients who have needs for anything image related whether it's for an event, special occasion, or photo shoot. I have always been big on fashion and styling in general, so I decided why not pursue a passion of mine? I have a pretty dope eye and can create looks that are unique.

ALL THE TUNES
For me, music always puts me where I need to be whether I'm having a bad day, walking into class for a test, going to practice, or about to compete. If I don't have it, then it just doesn't feel right. My playlist varies depending on my mood for the day, but you can almost guarantee there is some Future in rotation.

FEAR OF HEIGHTS
Ever since I was a youngin', I have always had a crazy fear of heights and yet I still enjoy riding on roller coasters.
