Late Surge Helps Anteaters Draw Season Finale

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- UC Irvine women's soccer's regular season finale was an all-out battle with UC Santa Barbara ending in a 2-2 draw Sunday afternoon in Harder Stadium.

Gaucho Ball
UC Santa Barbara (8-4-6, 4-1-3) had a majority of the opportunities early putting up a pair of shots on goal in the first 10 minutes, and led on the stat sheet for most of the first half.

The second half, they ramped it up a notch getting the scoring going in the 53rd minute. Shaelan Murison banked one in off the crossbar from outside the box to make it 1-0, Gauchos. She would feed Lauren Hess minutes later who would add to the lead and make it 2-0 in the 59th minute.

Hitting Their Stride
The Anteaters (4-12-2, 3-3-2) still had just one shot on goal as the match reached the final 15 minutes, but the attack was on, and they accelerated in the 81st minute.

A long free kick from midfield was headed along and found Amber Huff who fed the ball back into the box hitting Scarlett Camberos in stride as she slotted a ball inside the far post beating keeper Evann Smith to bring UCSB closer, 2-1. Camberos and the Anteaters quickly evened the score as 42 seconds later she would find Kala McDaniel who punched a ball home suddenly making it a 2-2 game.

Overdrive
The 'Eaters had a bulk of the chances in the first overtime including Jessica Miclat's shot on goal in the 93rd minute, Kala McDaniel popped a volley over the bar in the waning minutes of the period which included a UCSB yellow card.

The Gauchos were the aggressors in the second period with three shots and two on frame along with their eight corner of the afternoon, but nothing fell for either side as the match finished in a draw.
