IRVINE, Calif. --- The No. 14 UC Irvine men's water polo team fell in a tough match with No. 2 UCLA, 16-7, on Sunday afternoon at Anteater Aquatics Complex.Ā

- UCI outshot UCLA 33-25 but went 0-3 in powerplay situations and 0-1 in five-meter penalty shots
- UCLA keeper Alex Wolf logged a game high 14 saves.

TURNING POINTS
QUARTER ONE:
- UCLA was in control to begin the game, scoring the first six points.
- Gornay would put the 'Eaters on the board with just two seconds remaining in the quarter to cut the lead to 6-1.
- The Anteaters matched the Bruins in shots with 7, but were only able to convert one.
QUARTER TWO:
- The Bruins stayed hot to begin the second quarter, scoring the first two goals, pushing their lead to 8-1.
- Following an offensive foul by the Bruins, Nikocevic drilled in his first goal of the day to cut the lead to 8-2.
- Joudrie would follow with another goal for the 'Eaters, pushing the score to 8-3 at 5:40.
- UCLA scored the next four points, two coming on powerplayĀ situations, extending their lead, 12-3, at the half.
QUARTER THREE:
- UCI opened the scoring coming out of halftime as Lynton capitalized on a UCLA turnover to trim the deficit, 12-4.
- Shortly after a UCLA goal, Chiponis drilled one into the net to make it 13-5 at 5:15.
- The Anteaters would have three consecutive shots blocked by Bruin goalkeeper Alex Wolf with less than three minutes left in the quarter.
- UCLA added two more goals to increase the lead, 15-5.
QUARTER FOUR:
- Joudrie added his second goal of the afternoon at 7:04, cutting the lead to 15-6.
- After a UCLA score, John Polos would add a goal with 2:56 remaining.
- The Bruins would hold on to win it 16-7.
