IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine student-athletes will participate in the 12th Annual Big West Coin Drive beginning Saturday (Feb. 2) at the men's volleyball match against USC at the Bren Events Center.
The Coin Drive, which takes place throughout the month of February, is held on each of the nine conference campuses with the respective Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) collecting donations for a designated charity at various home contests. The Anteaters raised $1,700.81 for Active Minds upping the total to $47,711.34 over the last seven years of the Big West Coin Drive.
This year, UCI will be raising money for the UCI Health Breast Cancer Center in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness activities in the month of February. Proceeds raised by the UC Irvine SAAC will benefit Breast Cancer Awareness, with collections going directly to UC Irvine Health Breast Cancer Center. The UCI Health Breast Center is dedicated to giving state-of-the-art care with highly trained surgeons, radiologist, nurses and healthcare professionals.
UCI SAAC reps Evan Singletary of men's track and field and Shelby Lee of women's soccer and heading up the efforts. "We are excited to be raising money for UC Irvine's very own Breast Cancer Center! We're glad to be able to support a cause that we know will be beneficial for years to come."
Last year, the Big West raised $14,215.37. Collectively, the Big West Coin Drive has raised $211,016.99 over its 11 years.
