No. 13 Anteaters Drop 15-9 Decision to No. 4 Cal

IRVINE, Calif. – No. 13 UC Irvine suffered a 15-9 loss to No 4 California, Saturday at Anteater Aquatics Complex.

With the loss, UCI falls to 5-6 on the season while the Bears improve to 11-1 overall.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Lazar Manojlovic led the 'Eaters with three goals
> Jack Trush and Ian Fleenor tallied two goals each for UCI
> Byron Rivers made nine saves and grabbed three steals in goal
> Cal's Johnny Hooper had a game-high four goals and seven assists
> In goal, Bernardo Carelli made 12 saves for the Bears
> The 'Eaters finished 4-of-5 on powerplays while Cal went 6-of-12
> UCI held a slight 14-13 advantage in steals while the Bears out-shot the 'Eaters 35-29

TURNING POINTS
> Cal's Hooper scored three goals in the first quarter to give the Bears a 3-1 advantage
> Zlatan Nikocevic put the 'Eaters on the board scoring on a power-play at 1:58 in the first quarter
> Both teams each scored three goals in the second quarter to make it 6-4 at halftime
> Ian Fleenor, Jason Evezard and Manojlovic each scored in the frame
> Cal out-scored UCI 6-2 in the third quarter to break open the lead,12-6
> The Bears opened up the fourth quarter with a 6-on-5 goal before the Anteaters scored back-to-back with goals from Fleenor and Manojlovic
> Jack Trush scored  on an extra-man opportunity with 1:29 left to play but it wasn't enough as the Bears escaped with the 15-9 victory

> UCI is 0-2 against Cal this season after dropping a 15-12 decision to the Bears earlier this year
