Box Score SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. --- UC Irvine's high-octane offense continued its roll with a 4-1 victory over host San Francisco Thursday night at Negoesco Stadium.
UC Irvine (6-2-1) had the offense running early scoring on the game's first shot.
Alvaro Quezada's corner kick rattled in the box falling to
Jose Soto to tap the ball in for his first career goal and give the 'Eaters at 1-0 lead in the fifth minute.
San Francisco (2-5-1) couldn't get a shot in edgewise before UCI's second goal.
Jose Ortiz knocked in his sixth goal in the last seven games launching a shot from the top of the box to make it a 2-0 lead in the 21st minute.
USF woke up with the final six shots of the half, but still trailed 2-0 to the Anteaters thanks to four
Greg Patenaude saves.
The defense held strong until defensive midfielder
Daniel Crisostomo put the 'Eaters up 3-0 off a feed from
Jose Ortiz in the 71st minute.
Less than three minutes later the lead grew to 4-0 from
Ivan Canales all but sealing the 'Eaters' third straight win.
USF's Santiago Sarmiento gave the Dons a goal in the 86th minute to bring the final to 4-1 in favor of the Anteaters.
Patenaude finished with his four saves and earned his eighth win of his career. Ruben Stuiver stopped three shots from the Anteaters.
Soto's goal doubled as his first career goal and first game-winning goal. Ortiz took hold of the conference's lead in goals with six.
The win completes the first part of the 'Eaters' three-game road trip which heads to Pacific on Sunday, Sep. 23 for a 2:00 p.m. match with the Tigers.
NOTES: The goal for USF snapped a 265-minute shutout streak, the second streak of at least 250 minutes this season...
Daniel Crisostomo scored twice in the last three games after no goals in the first 59 matches of his career...the win marks the third straight game UCI has scored at least three matches
