NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's track & field team wrapped up action at the Big West Championships Saturday at Matador Track & Field Complex.

"I am very proud of our team effort," head coach
Jeff Perkins said. "We work tirelessly on keeping the focus on us, and I felt we accomplished some things we have been working on for quite some time. Our men's team is in a development pattern right now and we understand that patience is the focus and the future is bright."

Andres Woodruff, junior

Asa Allen and senior
Michael Hamill got the day started on a high note with a runner-up finish in the 4x100 relay. The quartet, who came into the meet seeded sixth, combined for a season-best 40.58.

Allen followed with a third-place showing in the 110m hurdles (14.39).

Woodruff also paced a trio of Anteaters in the 400m hurdle final as he came in fourth with a personal-record 53.38. It was his fourth consecutive sub-54 second race. Sophomore
CJ Hicks shaved 1.04 seconds off his lifetime best to take fifth overall (53.97), while freshman
Kyle Sandoval placed sixth in a season-best 54.45.

Junior
Brandon Lucas added points in the 200m with a fifth-place performance (21.81). Juniors
Paul Resong (48.01) and
Omar Valenzuela (162-05) also scored as they took seventh in the 400m and discus, respectively.

The 4x400 relay team comprised of Woodruff, Resong, Sandoval and sophomore
Stefon Goudeau closed out the meet with a season-best 3:14.57, which was good for third.
Sophomore
Hector Garcia narrowly missed out on finishing in scoring position in the 1500m where he came in ninth (3:59.58).

UC Irvine totaled 44 points to finish seventh in the team standings. Cal State Fullerton defended its Big West title with 154 points.
