David Kim Posts Top-25 Finish at Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Senior David Kim had his best round of the 72nd annual Western Intercollegiate on Sunday and posted a top-25 overall finish in an elite field of 96 at the renowned Pasatiempo Golf Course.
 
Kim started the day by wrapping up the second round at 2-over 72, before firing off five birdies over the final 18 where he carded a 1-under 69. It was his fourth sub-70 round over the last three tournaments. Kim climbed seven spots in the standings as he tied for 24th with a 54-hole score of 1-over 211 (70-72-69).
 
Seniors Ryan O'Connor (74-75-74) and Chris Parkinson (73-76-74) tied for 72nd as they both shot a 223.
 
Junior Ramiz Jamal finished the afternoon with a solid 4-over 74 to move up two spots into a tie for 78th at 225 (72-79-74).
 
Sophomore Jonathan Kang also recorded a 225 after bouncing back from a tough second round with a 75 (+5) over the last 18 holes. Kang had a career-best 69 in Saturday's first round.
 
Senior Jonathan Young tied for 86th following a third-round 74 (+4), his best of the tournament. Young finished with a 54-hole total of 229.
 
UC Irvine finished 14th overall, compiling a 6-count-5 team score of 1101 (358-378-365). No. 20 North Carolina won the team title at 1036, finishing 10 strokes ahead of runner-up Cal.  
 
Fourth-ranked Norman Xiong of Oregon was individual medalist after winning a three-way playoff. Xiong, No. 1 Collin Morikawa (Cal) and No. 59 George Cunningham all tied for first at 10-under 200.
 
The Anteaters will be back in action at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., April 14-15, in their final tune-up before the Big West Championships.
