UCI's Underclassmen Take Center Stage at Triton Invite

LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC Irvine's underclassmen led the way for the men's track & field team Saturday at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla.
 
Of the eight Anteaters in action at Triton Track & Field Stadium, six were underclassmen, including four freshmen.
 
Freshman Xavier Weaver and sophomore Hector Garcia paced five 'Eaters in the 800m as they were among the top-30 in a field of 64 runners. Weaver notched a personal-record 1:55.57 to place 27th, while Garcia came in 28th at 1:55.65.
 
Senior Ashton Garcia also clocked in at 1:56.30 (32nd), and freshman Kit Carter took 35th with a lifetime-best 1:56.83. Sophomore Sam Ayala rounded out the group in 42nd (1:57.58).
 
Freshman Tariq Harness competed in his second 100m race of the season, placing 22nd overall at 11.30 seconds.
 
Freshman Ravi Sharma was 48th in the 1500m where he crossed the finish line in a season-best 4:10.11.
 
In the throws, junior Omar Valenzuela came in 20th out of 51 in the open section of the discus (161-01).

UC Irvine has a busy week ahead as it will send athletes to the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 19-20) in Azusa, the Mt. SAC Relays (April 19-21) in Torrance, and both the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate (April 19) and Beach Invitational (April 20-21) in Long Beach.
