| Box Score 2 IRVINE, Calif. – The UC Irvine men's tennis team split a pair of matches at two locations Wednesday. UCI dropped a 4-1 decision to Loyola Marymount at Newport Beach Tennis Club in the morning but came back to sweep Villanova at Anteater Tennis Stadium in the afternoon.

With the split, UCI moves to 4-7 on the season.

LMU 4, UCI 1
UCI was without it top player, Sebastian Heim and had several players compete through injury. Vatsal Bajpai highlighted the match, earning the Anteaters only win after defeating LMU's Diego Nava, 6-2, 7-5 in No. 6 singles.

The duo of Bajpai and Bruce Man-Son-Hing led at No. 3 doubles, 5-4, but the match went unfinished as LMU clinched the point with wins at No. 1 and 2.
On court five, Daniel Gealer battled with the Lions' Nick Borchenko but dropped a 7-6 (4), 6-4 decision.

Sasha Krasnov and LMU's Errol Smith were tied at one when the match was called. Smith took the first set, 6-1, and Krasnov won the second set 7-6 (4). At the top spot, Luis Lopez dropped the first set, 3-6, but led the second set, 4-3, before the match was called. LMU earned the victory with wins at Nos. 2, 4 and 5.

UCI 7, Villanova 0
UCI's 7-0 victory is the first sweep for the Anteaters against a Division 1 opponent since last season when UCI earned a 4-0 victory over Hawai'i in the Big West Tournament quarterfinals.

The tandem of Bajpai and Man-Son-Hing set the tone winning at No. 2 doubles, 6-4. Antoine Barthe and Krasnov followed with a 7-5 victory over Czlonka/Mulfur on court three to clinch the doubles point.

In singles, Gealer got things started for the 'Eaters with a 6-3, 6-1, win over Dodson at No. 4. Lopez followed with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at the top spot and Luca Marquard delivered another final blow to the Wildcats, clinching the match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 3.

Barthe (2-6, 6-3, 10-6)), Krasnov (7-5, 6-2) and Hansen (6-3, 6-2) won on courts six, two and five, respectively.

UCI continues its busy week with a match against Boston Friday, March 9 at 1:00 p.m.
