Box Score IRVINE, Calif. – The UC Irvine men's tennis team returned to dual-match action, notching a 4-3 win over Boston College Monday afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
 
Despite missing a few players due to injury, the Anteaters held on to earn their third dual-match win of the season, improving to 3-6 overall.
 
"Another gritty win without all of our starters," said head coach Mike Saunders. "Sebastian Heim played injured today, was 60 percent at best, but managed to help get us the doubles point and fought valiantly in singles despite not being able to run."
 
The duo of Bruce Man-Son-Hing and Heim got things started taking No. 3 doubles by a score of 6-0. The 'Eaters dropped in the No. 2 spot but Luca Marquard and Mason Hansen came in clutch at the top spot winning 7-5 to clinch the point for UCI.
 
"Luca and Mason clutched out to get us the doubles point. Mason served bombs all day and was all over the net. I am very proud of how he is becoming a true student of the game," said Saunders.
 
In singles, Luis Lopez earned a dominating, 6-2, 6-1, win over BC's Austin at the top spot to start UCI off on the right foot. Daniel Gealer followed winning on court five, 6-1, 7-6 (2). Heim, Sasha Krasnov and Man-Son-Hing fell in spots 3, 4, and 6, respectively, giving the Eagles a chance to knot the game at three.
 
"Luis and Danny continue to get better with every match and both played with great focus today," added Saunders.
 
Marquard battled at No. 2 against BC's Heitmann and held on to win, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, to clinch the match for the 'Eaters.
 
"Luca did not play his best today in singles but stayed positive and refused to go down."
 
UCI returns to the court for a doubleheader Wednesday, March 7 against Loyola Marymount (9 a.m.) and Villanova (2 p.m.).
