
Three Anteaters Named to Big West All-Academic Team

IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine men's cross country had three student-athletes honored by the conference for their work in the classroom.
Junior Ashton Garcia, sophomore Hector Garcia and graduate student Izzak Mireles each earned Big West Fall All-Academic distinction. All three maintain over a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average.
On the course, Ashton, Hector and Izzak established personal records in both the 6K and 10K this year. Izzak was also named the Big West Athlete of the Week on Oct. 17, while Hector garnered all-conference honors with a sixth-place finish at the Big West Championships.
In order to be considered for all-academic recognition, student-athletes must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full year at their institution and have participated in 50 percent of the team's contests.
