Brandon Lucas Shines in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO - Junior Brandon Lucas had a big day to lead the UC Irvine men's track & field team at the Mondo Team Challenge Saturday at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium.
 
Lucas, who was running into a headwind, won the 200m in a personal-record 21.08. His time ranks seventh in school history, as he became the first Anteater to crack the all-time top-10 in the 200m since 2008. Lucas was also the runner-up in the 100m with a lifetime-best 10.60, which puts him at No. 6 among UCI's career leaders.
 
Junior Asa Allen shared the 110m hurdle title with Andre Lindsey of host Sacramento State as both crossed the finish line in 14.35 seconds. Allen contributed a fifth-place showing in the 200m where he notched a season-best 21.85.
 
Freshman Kyle Sandoval took third in the 400m hurdles, running a personal-best 54.47, while sophomore CJ Hicks wasn't far behind in fourth (55.04).
 
The 'Eaters had two sophomores place among the top-10 in the 400m as Stefon Goudeau came in ninth with a season-best 49.38, and Andres Woodruff was 10th with a lifetime-best 49.85. Freshman Ian Ward added a season-best 52.85.
 
Also registering season bests were senior Michael Hamill in the 100m (11.07) and junior Paul Resong in the 200m (22.53).
 
In the field events, freshman Seth Enochs finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 23-04.5. Enochs entered today's meet with three individual victories under his belt.
 
Junior Omar Valenzuela was fourth in the discus (164-08), and senior Jon Dickinson came in 11th in the hammer (155-06).
 
UC Irvine returns to Anteater Stadium on Friday, April 6, to host Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State and UC Santa Barbara in the 26th annual Big West Challenge.
