Box Score LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Fourth-ranked UC Irvine extended its winning streak to six with a 3-0 sweep of USC (25-18, 28-26, 25-13) in a non-conference match Saturday at the Galen Center.Â

The Anteaters improve to 17-5 overall, recording their ninth sweep of the year.

Opposite
Karl Apfelbach led UCI with 13 kills and two aces. Outside hitter
Joel Schneidmiller added 10 kills, while
Aaron Koubi had seven kills and libero
David Parker had a match-high 11 digs.Â

The middle blockers were nearly unstoppable as
Austin Wilmot hit .750 with six kills on eight attempts and no errors.
Scott Stadick had six kills with one error on seven swings. Â Both players also recorded three blocks.Â

USC (6-16) was led by Ryan Moss with nine kills and Jack Wyett with eight.
Karl Apfelbach recorded six kills and an ace as UCI opened the first set with a 14-7 lead. USC was helped by six UCI service errors, but could not catch the Anteaters, 25-18. UCI hit .542 to USC's .136. Apfelbach would end the set with eight kills.
In the second set, USC led 19-17 before
Tucker Pikula stepped to the service line and fired a pair of aces to knot the game at 19-19. With the Trojans holding their second set point, UCI would score three straight points on and Apfelbach kill, a block by
Aaron Koubi and
Austin Wilmot and a kill by Koubi to win the set 28-26.Â
UCI took control of the third set early and broke it open with a kill and block by Stadick plus a Trojan error, 16-9. The Anteaters would win the set 25-13.Â

UCI returns to Big West play, traveling to No. 1 Long Beach State Friday (Mar. 30). The Anteaters will host the Forty-Niners the following night (Mar. 31).Â

NOTES: UCI has hit over .400 seven times this season…it is the ninth straight match UCI has out-blocked the opponent…six different players were in on at least one block tonight…Stadick has 93 block assists this season the most in the country…UCI six straight wins are the fifth most in the country currently.
