IRVINE, Calif. - Senior Izzak Mireles led the UC Irvine men's track & field team on the first day of the UCI Spring Break Collegiate Classic with a top-three finish Friday at Anteater Stadium.
 
Mireles capped the night for the host 'Eaters by claiming bronze in his 5000-meter season debut. He clocked in at 14:44.73, over two seconds faster than the fourth-place finisher.
 
Senior Jon Dickinson also scored in the hammer throw with a sixth-place showing. He advanced to the final round with a toss of 168-08, before seeing an improvement on his fifth attempt at 169-04.
 
Junior Jon Rodriguez also came in 10th in the steeplechase (9:40.55).
 
UC Irvine is back at Anteater Stadium tomorrow with a full day of events slated for a 10 a.m. start (pole vault, shot put, long jump). Action on the track gets underway with the 4x100 relay at 12 p.m.
