UCI Earns WIns Over Yale and Liberty at Home

IRVINE, Calif. β UC Irvine won both games of its doubleheader Friday at Anteater Tennis Stadium. The Anteaters grabbed a 4-1 victory over Yale in the morning before earning a 4-1 decision over Liberty in the afternoon.

With the sweep, UCI improves to 10-7 overall and extends its win streak to seven games.
"These recent victories have all been a total team effort," said head coach Mike Saunders. "Everyone has contributed and made a difference. When you believe in the people around you and they believe in you; when you lead with your heart, great things happen."

UC Irvine clinched the doubles point and held off Yale in singles to pull out the 4-1 victory.

Luis Lopez and Daniel Gealer defeated the Bulldogs' Andrew Heller/Zigi Wang, 6-2, at No. 3 doubles while Bruce Man-Son-Hing and Vatsal Bajpai won at No. 2, 6-4, to get the doubles point for the 'Eaters. Mason Hansen and Luca Marquard led at No. 1, 4-2, but the match was abandoned after the point was won.

UCI battled in singles and clinched the match with wins at Nos. six, four and one. Hansen defeated Alan Sou on court six, 6-4, 6-4, to put UCI up 2-0 before Daniel Gealer won at No. 4, 6-7 (4-0), 4-2, when his opponent retired.
