SACRAMENTO - The UC Irvine women's cross country team closed out the season with a 25th-place finish at the NCAA West Regional Friday at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex.
Oregon won the team title with 44 points and was followed closely by Boise State in second (49). Both teams earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships in Madison, Wis., on Nov. 17.
"Our women finished the season much as they began it, improving their position from last year," UCI distance coach
Chris Evans said. "They finished seven places higher than 2017. With everyone returning and three freshmen in our top-five runners, we are very excited about this team's potential. So much of this year was about learning how to race with, and beat teams, who beat us last year. Now we need to learn from this experience to take the next step."
Freshman
Hannah Chau led the Anteaters for the fifth time in six races this season. She covered the 6000-meter course in 21:32.7 to come in 91st overall. Chau was also 14th among the field's 66 freshmen.
Junior
Brenda Dorantes was UCI's No. 2 runner with a season-best 21:54.8, which was good for 121st place.
Junior
Anastasia Karnaze followed in 162nd (22:26.0), while freshman
