UC Irvine Can't Corral No. 17 Cal Poly

Box Score SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – UC Irvine could not rustle away a set from No. 17 Cal Poly, falling to the Mustangs 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-13) at the Mott Athletic Complex.

The Anteaters, who hit just .160 (32-16-100), are 14-9 overall and 8-3 in Big West matches. Cal Poly bounces back from a loss at Hawaii to improve to 20-2 and 10-1 in league play.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Outside hitter Loryn Carter was errorless with a team-high 10 kills on 22 attempts (.455)
>Middle blocker Makayla Wolfe and outside hitter Abby Marjama each added seven kills
>Torrey Van Winden posted a match-best 21 kills for Cal Poly

TURNING POINTS
SET 1

>Cal Poly got out to an early 7-2 lead and never surrendered the lead on the way to a 25-19 victory
>UCI made a one run that was started by a kill and an ace by Loryn Carter and ended with a block by Abby Marjama and Idara Akpakpa to close to 9-7, but the Mustangs would rattle off the next three points to remain in control

SET 2
>The teams would not be separated for more than two points for most of the set until Cal Poly scored four straight after being tied at 16-16. Three of the four points in the run came from UCI attack errors
>Cal Poly was up 22-18 before the Anteaters came to life recording three straight kills, one by Marjama and two from Carter to close within 22-21
>The teams would just trade points to end the set, giving Cal Poly a 25-23 win on a Torrey Van Winden kill

SET 3
>Cal Poly held a one point lead then closed out the set out-scoring UCI 12-3 to complete the sweep 25-13

>It is only the fourth time this season UCI has been swept
>Erin Alonso led UCI with 11 digs followed by Haley DeSales with 10. DeSales has recorded double figure digs in 22 of 23 matches
>UCI has lost seven straight outings against the Mustangs
>The Anteaters out-blocked Cal Poly 4-3, the 10th time they have out-blocked an opponent
