PALO ALTO, Calif. – No. 11 UC Irvine men's water polo couldn't recover from a slow start, ultimately falling 16-10 to No. 2 Stanford Sunday in Palo Alto.

UCI drops to 8-11 on the season. The Cardinal improve to 17-1 overall.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Jason Evezard led the Anteaters with three goals
> Jack Trush, Jon Polos and Jack Baumgardner had two goals apiece
> Jake Huynen played three quarters in the cage amassing seven saves
> Chandler Mankins finished with one save after playing the final quarter in goal

TURNING POINTS
> The Cardinal got on the board first before Polos scored for the 'Eaters to make it 1-1 with 5:21 left in the first quarter
> Stanford answered scoirng four-straight goals to take a 5-1 lead after the first frame
> Evezard, Trush and Baumgardner each tallied a goal in the second quarter but UCI couldn't slow down the Cardinal offense as Stanford notched five more goals to go up 10-4 at halftime
> The Cardinal opened-up the third quarter with three-straight goals before Miles Kalbus and Evezard scored back-to-back to make it 13-6
> UCI out-scored Stanford 4-3 in the final quarter but it wasn't enough as the Cardinal earned the six-point 16-10 win
> Trush, Evezard, Baumgardner and Polos each had a goal in the final frame
 
NOTES
> Evezard continued his scoring streak to 20 straight games
> Trush upped his career goal total to 104
> Huynen earned his second career start
> This was the first meeting between UCI and Stanford this season
> The Anteaters have not beaten the Cardinal since 2006
