The UC Irvine men's tennis team heads to Malibu, Calif., for the ITA Southwest Regional Championships. This is the second of three preseason tournaments that the 'Eaters will play in this season.
NEWS AND NOTES
- UC Irvine was the only school that saw players make the championship in all four flights at the SDSU Invitational.
- Eight of ten 'Eaters competing at the SDSU Invitational won singles matches.
- Nine Anteaters will be competing this week at the ITA Southwest Regionals.

Luis Lopez advanced to the doubles quarterfinals at last year's ITA Southwest Regionals before falling to Arizona State's tandem of Hannestad/Ruehl.
- UCI is one of 13 schools that will be competing at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships.
- Lopez was named Buffalo Wild Wings Anteater of the Week after making the championships in the top flights of both singles and doubles at the SDSU Invitational.

Daniel Gealer made the championships in both singles and doubles in his flights at the SDSU Invitational.

Luis Lopez and
Mateusz Smolicki won the doubles Red Flight at the SDSU Invitational.

Mike Mkrtchian competed well in the singles Warrior Flight, winning three straight matches after dropping his first.

Sasha Krasnov made it to the semifinals in both the Aztec Flight singles consolation bracket and the doubles Black Flight consolation bracket.
AT THE SDSU AZTEC INVITATIONAL
UC Irvine faced off in its first preseason tournament of the year last week, where eight of the ten competing Anteaters earned wins in singles. Senior
Luis Lopez led UCI, taking second place in the singles Aztec Flight and winning the doubles Red Flight with partner
Mateusz Smolicki.
Junior
Daniel Gealer made it to the finals of the singles Warrior Flight before ultimately falling to Grand Canyon University's Lucas Grego. Gealer also made it to the finals of the doubles Black Flight with partner
Bruce Man-Son-Hing before conceding to the Southern Utah tandem of Morales/Erro.
