No. 10 UC Irvine Falls To No. 6 Long Beach State, 12-7

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – No. 10 UC Irvine fell to No. 6 Long Beach State 12-7 in the second game of the day from the Mountain Pacific Invitational held at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center.

After a grueling battle versus USC in the first game, UCI could not regroup and go to 7-4 overall. LBSU improves to 9-4.

Seniors Antoine Lena and Lovre Milos had a team-high two goals. Brothers Kyle and Jack Trush added a goal as did Fynn Schuetze. Keeper Matej Matijevic tallied seven saves.

Long Beach State's Duncan Lynde had a game-high three goals.

Long Beach State jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period until Lovre Milos scored on a power play at 5:56. The Forty-Niners scored two more, one on a penalty shot to extend their
advantage to 4-1. Kyle Trush added a late goal at 0:31 to end the quarter 4-2.  

Long Beach State kept rolling with six consecutive goals to extend the lead to 10-2 at the half.

UCI mounted a comeback in the third quarter starting with a man advantage goal by Fynn Schuetze at 7:39. Milos followed with another goal at 6:22 (10-4) then Jack Trush buried a pass from Robby Stiefel at 3:17 and Antoine Lena connected off a pass from Schuetze with nine ticks left to narrow the gap to 10-6.

LBSU regained the momentum scoring the first two goals of the final period before Antoine Lena scored the last goal of the game at 2:55 to make it 12-7.
UCI will close out the tournament playing No. 10 Pepperdine in the seventh place game at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow.
