IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's basketball team has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2017-18 season. The non-conference slate is highlighted by six home games and a November tournament in Albuquerque, N.M., where the Anteaters will go up against schools from the Big 10, Mountain West and Missouri Valley Conferences.

"I'm really excited about the preseason schedule; it's very competitive and well-balanced," second-year head coach Tamara Inoue said. "We have a tough Thanksgiving tournament, competing in three games in three days, which I believe will help prepare us for the Big West."

For the third year in a row, the 'Eaters will kick off the campaign at home as they take on Utah State in their season opener at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10. UC Irvine fell to the Aggies on the road last year, but lead the all-time series, 7-4.

The Anteaters then head to UNLV (Nov. 14), before welcoming Portland (Nov. 17) and Idaho State (Nov. 19) to the Bren Events Center.

UCI goes back out on the road the following weekend, traveling to Albuquerque for the UNM Thanksgiving Tournament where it will square off against Illinois (Nov. 24), New Mexico (Nov. 25) and Wichita State (Nov. 26). The 'Eaters then close out the first month of the season by hosting Pepperdine on Nov. 30.

After making its way to Southern Utah (Dec. 5) and San Diego State (Dec. 8), UC Irvine will entertain Portland State (Dec. 16) and Chapman (Dec. 19) to conclude its non-conference home schedule. The Anteaters also travel to Seattle U and Cal State Bakersfield in their final tune-up before Big West play.

UCI is going to be tested right away in conference as it takes on defending Big West regular season champion UC Davis in the Bren on Thursday, Jan. 4. The 'Eaters also host UC Santa Barbara, Hawai'i and CSUN in January.

Three home games highlight the month of February with UC Riverside (Feb. 10), Cal Poly (Feb. 15) and Long Beach State (Feb. 21) paying a visit to Irvine. The two-month conference stretch and regular season will conclude on March 3 with a home contest against Cal State Fullerton.

UC Irvine has a new look this year with five true freshmen and five returning redshirts suiting up in an Anteater uniform for the first time. UCI also welcomes back five letterwinners, including All-Big West selections Andee Ritter and Brooke Bayman.

"We are young, and with the energy we have shown so far, I think fans will look forward to coming out and supporting this team for many years to come," Inoue said.
