Before the 2017-18 season begins, let's take a look at the highlights from the 2016-17 season.

The Anteaters captured two Big West regular season titles as well as a Big West Championship in women's water polo. UCI was honored with four Conference Athletes of the Year, two Coaches of the Year, a Conference Freshman of the Year and 11 All-Americans.

Here are some of the best moments of the year:
Women's volleyball kicked off the year with a sweep then-No. 7 USC, 3-0, at the Galen Center on August 27, 2016.

Women's soccer defeated Cal State Fullerton on penalty kicks in the Big West Conference Tournament semifinals. Grayson Galbraith stepped up as the fifth and final shooter, and clinched it, 4-2 to send UCI to the championship game.

Women's volleyball won both regular-season matches against perennial Big West power Long Beach State for the first time in 13 years.

Men's water polo player Jack Trush was named All-America Honorable Mention. The Anteaters have had a men's water polo All-American every year since 1985.

Yossi Raz was named head men's soccer coach on January 19.
Â
Women's Basketball player Andee Ritter established a new single-season school record with 87 three-pointers.

The baseball team won two of three games against then-No. 1 TCU.
Â
An hour after baseball's upset of No. 1 TCU, the men's volleyball upset No. 1 Ohio State on the road, snapping the Buckeyes' 42-match winning streak.

Men's basketball earned the Big West regular-season championship for the third time in the last four years with a 79-49 victory over UC Davis on Mar. 4.

Men's Tennis player Sebastian Heim and women's volleyball player Arden Davis were honored as Big West Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

The Anteaters advanced to a postseason tournament for the fifth straight year, falling at top-seeded Illinois State, 85-71, in the NIT.

The women's golf team won the Wyoming Cowgirl Invitational in April, the 17
th tournament win in program history. The Anteaters finished in the top 10 led by Janet Yeo's career-best third place finish, recording a three round total of 214 (75-68-71).

Men's Volleyball player Scott Stadick was named MPSF and Volleyballmag.com Freshman of the Year, joining Michael Saeta, Tamir Hershko, Thomas Hodges and Dillon Hoffman named All-America. The Anteaters finished the season ranked No. 5 in the country.

The women's water polo team won its seventh Big West Conference regular-season title in the last nine years. The Anteaters captured the Big West Tournament championship for the sixth time with an 8-7 victory in sudden-death overtime over Long Beach State. UCI fell to Cal, 9-7, in a quarterfinal game of the NCAA Championship at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis. The Anteaters finished the season ranked No. 5 nationally.

Junior women's water polo player Allie Loomis received the Elite 90 Award, which is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA participating at the finals site for each NCAA Championship.

Men's golfer David Kim competed in the NCAA Regional as an individual and finished 20
th at the Stanford Golf Course. Kim, the Big West Men's Golfer of the Year, had eight top-10 finishes during the season.

Junior Keston Hiura led the nation in batting average (.442) and on-base percentage (.567) and was drafted ninth in the Major League Baseball draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. UCI recruit Royce Lewis was the No. 1 overall pick in the draft by the Minnesota Twins.

Lloyd Sicard (110-meter hurdles) and Isaiah Jewett (800 meters) qualified for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Jewett ran the second-fastest time in UCI history in the 800 semis, passing UCI legend Steve Scott on the program's Top 10 list.

Sicard (110-meter hurdles) won his third consecutive Big West title and Jewett (800 meters) also was a Big West champion. The duo also won a Big West title as members of the 4x400 relay, along with Brandon Howard and Paul Resong.

Megan George (100-meter hurdles) won her third straight Big West title.

George (100-meter hurdles), Tyra Jones (100-meter hurdles), Persis William-Mensah (100 meters) and Barbara Coward (discus) competed at the NCAA Track & Field West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas

Junior Alex Karlowitsch was one of six Big West student-athletes selected to attend the NCAA's Career in Sports Forum at Indianapolis in June.

Women's water polo head coach
Dan Klatt was named the United States World University Games head coach. He was honored as the Big West Coach of the Year for the sixth time in his career.

 Women's volleyball player Arden Davis delivered the undergraduate student address at the Paul Merage School of Business Commencement Ceremony.
