
Senior Bryan Shin was named to the All-Big West second team.
IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine junior David Kim and senior Bryan Shin earned All-Big West Conference honors for the 2016-17 season, announced by the league office Wednesday.
Kim was named Big West Player of the Year in addition to collecting all-conference first team recognition, while Shin was selected to the second team in voting by the league's head coaches.
Kim leads the 'Eaters with a 71.33 average in 11 tournaments this season with eight top-10 finishes.Â
He earned medalist honors in the Cal Poly Shootout April 17-18 at Cypress Ridge Golf Club in Arroyo Grande and has 12 top-10 showings in his career.Â
Kim has shot under par in 15 rounds this season and is a combined 4-under par over 33 rounds with nine rounds in the 60s, including a 7-under 65 at the Cal Poly Shootout.
He was named Big West Golfer of the Month for October after posting a pair of top-five finishes.
Kim is UCI's first Player of the Year in men's golf since John Chin earned the distinction three times (2008, 2009 and 2010). Brian Edick won the honor in 2007 and Jeff Coburn in 2003.
Kim will compete individually in the NCAA Regional at the Stanford Golf Course Monday through Wednesday.
Shin had a 72.13 average this season with a top finish of third at the Cal Poly Shootout, where he shot a 6-under 66 in the second round, and he placed 16th in the Folino Invitational at Industry Hills in late January.
Shin had eight rounds of par or better this season.
