SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The UC Irvine women's tennis team had several big individual wins but came up short as a team in a 4-3 road loss to Cal Poly Saturday at the Mustang Tennis Complex.

Eight of UCI's duals have now been decided by one point and the 'Eaters are 2-6 in those contests. This was also their first road match since Feb. 20.

Freshman Constance Branstine highlighted the afternoon with an impressive victory over Susanne Boyden at No. 1 singles. Branstine bounced back from a first-set loss as she came through in the clutch to defeat the Mustangs' top player, 5-7, 7-6, 11-9. Boyden had entered today's match with an 8-4 record, including a win over a ranked opponent.

Junior Vivien Dvali also came from behind for a 6-7 (5), 6-0, 13-11 triumph against Louise Oxnevad at the No. 2 spot. It was Dvali's second-straight win since her return to the lineup on April 2, after missing five matches with an injury.

Freshman Jacqueline Tsodikova added a point for the Anteaters on court six where she upended Abigail Bacharach, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.

Cal Poly (3-11, 1-3 Big West) claimed the doubles point and took the first three singles matches to clinch the dual before Dvali's win got the 'Eaters on the board.

UC Irvine (3-14, 0-4 Big West) stays on the road tomorrow, making its way to UC Santa Barbara for another 11 a.m. conference showdown.
