IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to UC Davis in its regular-season finale Saturday afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

It was the final home match for UCI's lone senior Andrew Gong, who played at No. 6 singles.

The 'Eaters (8-14, 2-3 Big West) dropped the doubles point for the first time in their five Big West matches. The Aggies opened with a 6-2 victory at the top of the lineup, before sophomore Vatsal Bajpai and freshman Bruce Man-Son-Hing evened the score with a 6-4 triumph over Alec Adamson/Everett Maltby at No. 3.

It then came down to court two where sophomore Mason Hansen and junior Luca Marquard were locked in a tight battle with Bryce McKelvie/James Wade. The Anteater duo led 4-2 before UCD took the next three games to go up, 5-4. Hansen/Marquard stayed alive as they knotted it up at 5-5, but they were unable to secure the win as the visitors held on at 7-5.

Junior Sebastian Heim quickly tied things up in singles as he dispatched Adamson, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1. Heim improved to 4-1 in conference matches.

UC Davis (14-7, 4-1 Big West) responded with straight-set victories at Nos. 5 and 6 before clinching the dual at the fourth spot. UCI would tack on one more point in the final match as Lopez bounced back from a tough first set to defeat McKelvie, 0-6, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3.

Up next for UC Irvine is the Big West Championships at Indian Wells Tennis Garden, April 27-30. The 'Eaters will open the tournament with a first-round match at 9 a.m. on Thursday (April 27).
