Isaiah Jewett Earns Third Big West Weekly Award

IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine sophomore Isaiah Jewett (Inglewood, Calif.) has been named the Big West Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the third time this season the conference office announced late Tuesday afternoon.

In just his fourth 800m race of his UCI career, Jewett won the collegiate open section at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays. He ran a personal-best 1:48.43, which was .28 seconds faster than the runner-up from Michigan (Big Ten). Jewett's time ranks first in the Big West, 10th in the West Region and 22nd in the NCAA. He also moved up two spots to No. 3 in school history where he sits behind only Olympians Charles Jock and Steve Scott on the all-time list.

Jewett is undefeated in the 800m this year, winning all three of his races. This was his biggest victory yet as the field of 50 athletes was the strongest he has competed against to-date.

Jewett is now responsible for three of the Anteaters' four Big West weekly awards in 2017. He was previously recognized on March 14 and 21, while senior Lloyd Sicard also earned his sixth career honor on March 28.

Up next for Jewett and the rest of the 'Eaters is the UCSD Triton Invitational in La Jolla, April 21-22.
