Keston Hiura One to Watch for Golden Spikes for Second Straight Year

Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List

DURHAM, N.C. --- USA Baseball released its Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List for 2017 today and for a second consecutive year it included Keston Hiura.

Hiura populated the list as a sophomore following a freshman campaign filled with All-American honors. He followed that up with a marvelous sophomore season, and has been named to five Preseason All-American squads ahead of the 2017 season. Hiura also spent the summer with the U.S. Collegiate National Team on their global series alongside many of the players on this list.

The list consists of 55 players to begin the process of identifying the top amateur baseball player in the country from the college level as well as the junior college and high school ranks. Fans will be able to nominate their favorite players from March 27 to April 2 prior to the reveal of the Midseason Watch List on April 12. Fans can then vote for the semifinalists that are announced on June 9 working all the way to the presentation of the award on June 29.

Cal State Fullerton was the only other Big West school to be represented, and one of the two high school players named to the list is Royce Lewis who signed his National Letter of Intent to become an Anteater back in November.

Hiura and the 'Eaters kick off their 2017 journey this weekend with a series against Big Ten champs Minnesota beginning Friday, Feb. 17 at 6:30 p.m. in Anteater Ballpark.
