IRVINE, Calif. --
Bryant Joudrie scored the game-winner with four seconds remaining in the second overtime to lift No. 6 UC Irvine to a 6-5 victory over No. 8 Pepperdine in an important Golden Coast Conference game at the Anteater Aquatics Center Friday night.
The Anteaters improve to 12-8 overall and 3-1 in conference action, while Pepperdine goes to 17-11 on the year and 2-2 in the GCC.
Senior
Lovre Milos and
Robby Stiefel led the Anteaters with 2 goals each, while Joudrie and
Kyle Trush each added a goal. Goalkeeper Matej Matejevic had 17 saves.
Marko Asic paced Pepperdine with two goals and Zack Rhodes posted 18 saves.
Robby Stiefel had a soft lob shot in the left corner of the cage at 4:59 to get the scoring going in the first period.
Lovre Milos added another for the Anteaters with a goal at 2:39 on a pass from
Bryant Joudrie. The Waves would score the next two goals before Milos scored again with 33 seconds on the clock to give UCI a 3-2 advantage at the end of the period.
Kyle Trush would score the lone goal of the second period to extend UCI's lead to 4-2 at 6:37.
The third period started with Stiefel recording his second goal at 7:36 to put the Anteaters in front 5-2. Pepperdine would score the next three to knot the score at 5-5.
The teams would remain tied at 5-5 for the fourth period and the first overtime period.
With four seconds remaining in the second overtime, Joudrie would launch the game winner through traffic past the goalkeeper to give UCI the 6-5 victory.
The Anteaters will close out the regular season hosting UC San Diego Wednesday (Nov. 8) and Long Beach State Friday (Nov. 10). Both games start at 7:00 p.m. at the Anteater Aquatics Center. Â Â Â
