IRVINE, CALIF. – No. 7 UC Irvine was topped by No. 5 Pacific,9-5 in the Golden Coast Conference Championship at the Anteater Aquatics Complex Sunday.
Seniors Lovre Milos and Kyle Trush were named to the All-Tournament Team.
UC Irvine (15-10) had goals by Kyle Trush, Jon Polos, Brendan Duffy, Bryant Joudrie, and Jack Trush, while goalkeeper Matej Matijevic posted 12 saves. Milos added a team-high three steals to go with an assist.
Pacific (19-5) was led by Ben Stevenson's three goals, five steals and three assists. Goalkeeper Alen Osmanovic had 12 saves.
Pacific's Kale Ai (5:34) recorded the lone goal in the first quarter then Kyle Trush evened the score at 6:49 of the second quarter. Â The Tigers would add a pair of goals before Jon Polos answered at 0:34 to narrow the margin to 3-2. Pacific added a power play goal with 16 seconds remaining before Brandon Duffy closed out the half with his own power play goal down low on a pass from Robby Stiefel with three ticks remaining to go in to the break down 4-3.
Pacific scored the first two goals of the third period which was followed by an extra man goal by UCI's Bryant Joudrie at 1:10. The fourth quarter started with back-to-back goals by Luke Pavillard to extended Pacific advantage to 8-4. Jack Trush would record the Anteaters' last goal at 4:27 before one final Pacific goal at 2:03 gave the Tigers the championship title and the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
