IRVINE, Calif. – No. 6 UC Irvine scored eight unanswered goals in a 13-4 victory over No. 18 San Jose State in the Golden Coast Conference opener at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.
The teams would be tied 3-3 at 5:16 of the second period before UCI would end the game scoring 10 of the last 11 goals.
The Anteaters (10-4, 1-0) recorded eight straight goals, including out-scoring the Spartans 6-0 in the third period to break open the game.
UCI was led by junior
Jack Trush with three goals, putting away two in the final period at set on passes from
Lovre Milos.

Fynn Schuetze and
Ian Fleenor added two goals, while Â

Brendan Duffy,
Robby Stiefel and
Jon Polos also added a goal for the Anteaters.
Goalkeeper
Matej Matijevic had 16 saves in the win.
Justin Pickering, Ashley Castle, Jacob Mercep and Luca Cupic put in goals for the Spartans.
The Anteaters, who have won three in a row, will travel north next week, playing at No. 4 Pacific in an important GCC game Friday (Oct. 13) then No. 3 Cal in a non-conference affair Saturday.
