IRVINE, Calif. – No. 6 UC Irvine suffered an 11-5 loss to No. 4 Stanford Sunday at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.
Senior
Kyle Trush led UC Irvine (11-8) with a season-high three goals to go with an assist and two steal. Brother
Jack Trush added a goal as did
Lovre Milos. Goalkeeper
Matej Matijevic had 11 saves, an assist and a steal.
Stanford's Reid Chase also had three goals followed by Connor Stapleton and Cody Smith with two each as the Cardinal improved to 15-3 overall.
Neither team was good on the power play with Stanford going 1-9 and UCI 1-3.
Jack Trush scored on a pass from brother Kyle at 5:48 of the first quarter then it was Kyle's turn at 7:07 of the second quarter to put the Anteaters up 2-0. Stanford would score the next four, the first two coming from Reid Chase to take a 4-2 lead at the half.
Lovre Milos scored on a long pass from
Matej Matijevic at 6:25 in the third period to get UCI within 4-3, but the Cardinal would answer with three more to push the advantage to 7-3.
Kyle Trush would score two more times (7:31, 1:36) in the fourth quarter as Stanford found the back of the net four times for the 11-5 final score.
UCI stays at home next week, hosting Pepperdine on Friday (Nov. 3) at 7:00 p.m.
