Ramiz Jamal shot a career-best 69 to lead the UC Irvine men's golf team on the first day of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational Thursday at The Reserve at Spanos Park.

After a double bogey on the first hole, Jamal settled down and finished with the best round of his two-plus year career at UCI. The Huntington Beach, Calif., native ended up firing a team-high six birdies to tie for eighth at 3-under 69. Jamal topped his previous low round by two strokes.

David Kim concluded the first 18 holes in 34th place with an even-par 72, while classmate
Jonathan Young was 45th at 1-over 73.

Jonathan Kang also carded a 74 (+2) to tie for 62nd.

As a team, the Anteaters sit in 12th place at 288. Santa Clara leads the 20-team field with a first round total of 279, while Filip Lundell of Grand Canyon tops the individual standings at 7-under 65.
