LOS ANGELES, Calif. – No. 1 USC topped No. 6 UC Irvine 13-8 in a non-conference contest at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center Saturday afternoon.
UCI goes to 10-7 overall, while Southern California improves to 19-1.
Freshman
Fynn Schuetze got the Anteaters on the board with a goal at 7:26 of the first quarter.
Kyle Trush scored a pair of goals (4:50, 2:02) in the second quarter and
Casey Lynton scored two more (5:25, 4:26) in the third. In the final period,
Antoine Lena scored on a power play at 2:44 before
Robby Stiefel recorded a goal at 1:11 and Schuetze added another at 0.45.
Lena led the team with three assists, while
Matej Matijevic recorded 15 saves in goal.
Marko Vavic had a game-high three goals for USC.
The Anteaters were 1-5 on the power play, while the Trojans converted on 4-8.
UCI will travel to UC Santa Barbara next Friday (Oct. 27) before returning home to host Stanford Sunday (Oct. 29) at 1:00 p.m. at the Anteater Aquatics Center.
