UCI in 10th Place After Two Rounds at Cullum Invitational

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. -
The UC Irvine men's golf team concluded the first day of the Bill Cullum Invitational in 10th place Monday at Wood Ranch Golf Club.
 
UCI recorded a two-round score of 591. UC Santa Barbara tops the 12-team field at 565 (-11), just two strokes ahead of both Utah State and Long Beach State.
 
Senior David Kim led the Anteaters as he concluded Monday's action in seventh at 3-under 141. Kim, who had 11 birdies on the day, shot a 71 (-1) in the first round before moving up seven spots with a 70 (-2) in the second. He is four strokes behind the individual leader Derek Castillo of Cal State Fullerton.
 
Senior Jonathan Young made a seven-stroke improvement in the second round where he also recorded a 2-under 70 to vault 36 spots in the standings. He is currently 34th with a 36-hole total of 147 (+3).
 
In his collegiate debut, freshman Ray Yang notched a 150 (75-74) to come in 52nd, while sophomore Jonathan Kang (153) and junior Ramiz Jamal (163) rounded out the group in 67th and 89th, respectively.
 
UC Irvine will be back in action tomorrow to close out the CSUN-hosted Bill Cullum Invitational with the third and final round starting at 8 a.m.
