UC Irvine Falls to USC at Triton Invitational

 

LA JOLLA, Calif. --- Eighth-ranked UC Irvine fell to No. 2 USC, 14-3, in the season opener at the Triton Invitational Saturday morning.

Anteater goals were scored by junior Ryan Warde, freshman Ian Fleenor and sophomore Jack Trush.

Warde scored with 19 seconds left in the first quarter, Fleenor notched his first collegiate goal with one second remaining in the third period and Trush closed out UCI's scoring with 1:13 left in the game.

Junior goalie Matej Matijevic, a transfer from San Jose State, recorded 18 saves in his Anteater debut.

Mihaljo Milicevic led the Trojans with three goals.

UCI continues play in the invitational against Cal Lutheran at 3:00 p.m. at Canyonview Pool in La Jolla.
