UC Irvine Takes Second At Ptarmigan Ram Classic

Fort Collins, Colo. – UC Irvine started the 2016-17 season with a second place finish at the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic held at the Ptarmigan Country Club.

UCI had the lowest round of the day, posting a 295 to finish the tournament with a three round score of 885 (298-292-295), 14 shots behind tournament champion San Jose State (871).

It is the highest finish for an Anteater team since the team also placed second at the NMSU Price's Give 'Em Five Invitational Oct. 9, 2013.  It is also the first time since the NMSU tournament that two Anteaters finished in the top 10 at the same tournament.

Newcomer Avery French made an immediate impact in her first tournament as an Anteater, finishing with a team best third place finish. She fired a four-under par final round of 68, which included a string of four straight birdies on holes 13-16, to end with an overall score of 212 (73-71-68).

In, who returned after a redshirt year, placed seventh with a career-best 54-hole score of 217 (73-69-75).  The junior tied her career-best with a 69 on the second round.

Amongst tournament players, French and In tied for fourth in birdies with 12 each. In led the tournament field on Par 5s with a four-under (4.67), while French was second on Par 3s at two-under (2.83).

Senior Samantha Chan was tied for 33rd with a score of 228 (75-74-79), while junior Camille Wagg was tied for 42nd with a three round total of 231 (77-79-75) and junior Breanne Jones was tied for 61st at 235 (80-78-77).

UCI will travel to the Julie Inkster Spartan Invitational at the Almaden Country Club next Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 19-20).
