Anteaters Power 4-0 Victory over UAB

FULLERTON, Calif. --- UC Irvine got a well-balanced win Sunday afternoon at the Fullerton Tournament in Titan Stadium putting UAB away, 4-0.

UCI (7-1) got contributions from four different 'Eaters starting at the top with the first goal in the 23rd minute from Jessica Miclat who hustled onto a ball through the box to poke it inside the left post and give the 'Eaters a 1-0 lead.

The Anteaters extended the lead to 2-0 just eight minutes later as Kiana Palacios swung in a corner kick. He feed found Grayson Galbraith who headed it on frame right to a Blazer defender on the goalline to save it, but before she could clear, Noel Baham flew in to crush the rebound into the roof for her second goal on the weekend.

The Anteater lead grew to 3-0 just after halftime as Galbraith poked Alex Karlowitsch's cross across the box and inside the left post in the 46th minute.

The final tally came after a deflected Baham cross was swept up by Lili Andino just six yards out finishing up under the crossbar in the 58th minute for the fourth goal and 4-0 final.

The 'Eaters got 28 shots on the afternoon splitting 14 evenly between the halves, and allowed just two with none on target from UAB to keeper Maddie Newsom. Blazer keeper, Kelsey Daugherty, stopped six shots in addition to the defensive save off the line by her defense.

The four different goal scorers are the most for the 'Eaters since 2010 when they did it twice in a pair of six-goal efforts. Galbraith and Baham each finished with a goal and two assists on the afternoon. Miclat's goal was the first of her career, and also went as the game-winner.

"I feel like our teams as a whole has a lot of goal scorers all around so its nice to be a part of that, being able to contribute to everyone's scoring. It's a really fun feeling," added Baham.

Palacios assisted on two goals on Sunday giving her four total for the weekend. Karlowitsch rounds out the seven Anteater assists on the afternoon.

The four-goal margin of victory is the most for the 'Eaters since a 5-0 defeat of UCR in 2011. It's the largest margin away from home since the match directly before the UCR win when UCI went into Northridge and took down CSUN, 4-0.

"We're playing more like sisters, having each other's back no matter what. We want to show up for each other, and we know a lot of girls can score so we try and get everyone an opportunity. It's really nice to have so many goalscorers on our team."

A lot of those sisters made it in today's match, 23 in all, including a collegiate debut for Jio Mamola entering in the 72nd minute.

'Eaters are now up to 7-1 in the season collecting its second streak of three or more wins. That streak will get tested with three more road matches starting Thursday, Sept. 15 with an afternoon contest at Idaho State.
